Nina Mae Behunin Goodrich, passed away on June 2, 2015 in South Jordan, UT surrounded by her three loving children. She was 95 years old. Nina was born in Altonah, Duchesne, Utah on September 4, 1919. She was the ninth child, born in the ninth month in 1919, and so they named her "Nina."
Nina lived long enough to see many changes in this world, from coal oil lamps to LED lights, from horse and buggy to jet airplanes, from waiting months for letters from her beloved Howard during World War II, to instant communication via cell phones, texting, Facebook and Twitter. She loved it all. "Joe, look up on 'that thing' when it's going to rain," "Bonnie, show me what Lori is doing on Facebook." "I know how the prophecy will be fulfilled about everyone hearing the voice of Jesus, it will be through technology!"
She got her education, not in the classroom but through life and living. She envied those with college degrees, little did she know that her knowledge far exceeded most of us. She was bright, resourceful, self reliant, and filled with faith in God. She never doubted and always turned to her Heavenly Father, in time of need or joy or sorrow.
Just a few talents included setting a beautiful table with linens and fresh flowers, serving food that looked and tasted wonderful, raising gardens of vegetables and flowers that were the envy of many neighbors, piecing and hand quilting, and loving grandchildren and great grandchildren beyond measure!
She married her sweetheart, Howard H Goodrich on April 2, 1946 and they were sealed in the Manti Temple June 30, 1948. On November 3, 1960 Nina received a visit from her Bishop that forever changed her life. There had been a cave-in at the Kenilworth Mine and Howard had been killed. Joe wrote in the biography of his parents: "Joe, Bonnie and Larry each grew and developed through those formative years with a firm foundation that they were loved by two parents." Through self-reliance and prayer, Nina nurtured and loved her family, they meant everything to her.
She leaves behind her three children: Joe (Jo Ann) Goodrich, Bonnie (Craig) Tew, Larry (Tammy) Goodrich, 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and 10 siblings. Ten days ago she lost her best friend and sister Marjorie, she hurried to join her.
She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served a mission to Iowa and then California, she loved being an ordinance worker in the temple and served several temple missions. She so enjoyed living her last few years at Legacy Retirement Center and leaves many friends there. The family wishes to express appreciation to the wonderful Legacy staff that provided exceptional quality of service, food and fun! We also thank Peak Hospice for excellent care of Marjorie and Nina.
