ORANGEBURG, SC - Funeral Services for Spec. Demetrius Lamar Void, 20 of Kandahar, Afghanistan were be held Friday, September 25, 2009 at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC (Smith Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center) with Pastor Odell Simpson and Minister JoAnne Owens officiating. Burial was in Belleville Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Orangeburg, SC. Demetrius Lamar Void was born April 18, 1989, to Ms. Sallie Deneed Void and the late Mr. Samuel Pelzer. He entered into eternal rest on September 15, 2009, in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Demetrius was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Bowman, SC, and served on the Usher Board and several other organizations. He was a 2007 graduate of Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, SC. Demetrius was a fun, loving, well mannered and much respected young man. He touched many lives in his short life. He has earned many awards. Survivors include his mother, Ms. Sallie Deneen Void; two brothers, Tacobi A. Void and Marcus Shuler; his grandfather, Deacon Townsend Pelzer; adopted parents, Mr. & Mrs. Otis (Teresa) Boyd; adopted brother, Mr. Dondre' (Beverly) Boyd; adopted sister, Mrs. Otisha (Jackie) Robinson; adopted grandmother, Clemmie D. Boyd; a special grand aunt, Mrs. Roseanne Void; special aunts and uncles; Mr. & Mrs. Bobby (Louvenia) Void, Mr. & Mrs. Earl (Velma) Void and Mr. Carlton Void; Mr. & Mrs. Wendell (Shari) Void; Mr. Michael Void, Rev. & Mrs. Keith (Wanda) Void; Mrs. Kathy (Patrick) Patterson, Ms. Judy Aiken, Ms. Sandra Ray and Ms. Valerie Jennings; grand aunts, Ms. Elease Gaines, Mrs. Annie Mae Hill, Ms. Rose Williams, Ms. Betty Williams and Ms. Clara Mae Boyd; Godmother, Ms. Laura Fogle; Godfather, Mr. Evander Johnson, Jr.; one granduncle, Mr. Paul (Catherine) Brown; a special friend, Spec. Aspen N. Kukulka; three best friends, Andre Mack, Ryan Myers and Jacob Lee Mack III and a host of cousins, family, and friends around the world.The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Spc. Demetrius L. Void, 20, of Orangeburg, S.C., died Sept. 15, 2009 at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when a military vehicle struck him while conducting physical training. He was assigned to the 57th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Signal Brigade, III Corps, Fort Hood, Texas. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
