A native of Taylorsville, Mr. Bebber was a son of the late William Jennings and Plezzie Deal Bebber. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah L. Bebber, a sister, Clea Bebber and a brother, James V. Bebber.
Mr. Bebber was a Navy veteran and had attended Appalachian State University. He moved his family to Asheville in 1954 and soon after became a State Farm Agent, remaining with them for 44 years. He developed the Ray Bebber Agency into one of the largest State Farm Agencies in the Southeast.
We was a former member of the West Asheville Optimist Club as well as being active with numerous other civic and charitable organizations. He was a founding member and was instrumental in the development of the West Asheville YMCA Recreation Park and Little League Program.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed training bird dogs and walking horses and following race horses. He and his friends, Joel Cogburn and Carroll McGee founded and operated the Land of the Sky Walking Horse Show for a number of years.
He is survived by his sons, Doug Bebber and wife, Debbie and David Bebber; adopted son Tom Ressler; granddaughter, Emily Bebber; sisters, Lucy Blakewood and Linda Cesena; brother Clyde Bebber and wife, Geneva; and special friend, Marie Cooksey.
Funeral services will be at 5:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Three Forks Baptist Church Cemetery in Taylorsville.
