Fred A. Midcap, 80, died Friday afteroon at 4:45 at his home at 514 N. Steuben, Chanute, Kansas. He had been in failing health for several months.
Born Feb. 5, 1867, at Fountain Green, Hancock County, Illinois.
He came to Kansas with his parents in a covered wagon in 1883, settling on a farm near Thayer, KS.
He was married to Ella Stipp Mar. 16 1899, and they lived near Urbana, KS until 1909 when they moved to Chanute.
After working for a short time in a grocery firm, Midcap was employed by the city as a meter reader, a position which he held for 14 years until he became city assessor. He was assessor for three years, retiring in 1937.
He was member of the Methodist church.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ella Midcap; two sons, Clarence Lloyd Midcap, Denver CO, and James R. Midcap, Chanute, KS; two daughters, Mrs. A. Virgil (Leota) Hume, Salem, OR, and Mrs. Avery (Edith) Sprague, Chanute, KS; a sister, Mrs. Charles Umbarger, Earlton, KS; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
