Dorcey never married, he continued to live on his father's homestead, making a home for his mother, Eliza Jane. Dorcey purchased the farm after his mother's death and continued to farm. Ill health caused his to discontinue farming. He lived the last two years of his life at the home of Robert and Beatrice Coyle Struthers, his sister. He died instantly from a heart condition on the street in Marshall, Minnesota.
