Major League Baseball Player. Born Ronald Glen Jones, he attended Seguin High School in Texas and Wharton County Junior College, prior to being scouted and signed as an amateur free agent by the Phillies. He enjoyed a distinguished minor league career, as he was recipient of the Paul Owens Award when he yielded a .317 batting average while with the Clearwater Phillies (A squad) in 1986. He marked his major league debut with the Phillies on August 26, 1988, and showed flashes of a promising career as he belted 8 home runs in 33 games that year. It was widely predicted that he would have been the Phillies' starting right fielder for several years. During the next two years, Jones suffered injuries in both knees, which limited his playing time, and in 1991 he officially retired as he was unable to fully recover. He played parts of four seasons (1988 to 1991) and appeared in 97 games. After retiring as a player, he established a hitting clinic along with his former Phillies teammate Charlie Hayes in the Houston area. Jones died suddenly of natural causes at the age of 41.
