Roy L. Gentry

Lifelong Shawnee resident Roy L. Gentry died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 92.

He was born Dec. 13, 1908, west of Shawnee. He was the son of W.L. and Lillie May (Guisinger) Gentry.

He was educated at Dale High School, Central State Teacher's College and Oklahoma Baptist University.

On Aug. 28, 1930, he was married in McLoud to Rubye Ellen Roberts, who preceded him in death Nov. 1, 1981.

He taught school until he and his wife established their farm and dairy.

Gentry was on the board of directors and past president of the Southwestern Peanut Growers Association; past president of Dale School Board; he was chairman of the board and taught Sunday school at Dale United Methodist Church and was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge.

He also was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ernest and Earl Gentry, and one infant sister, Bertha Gentry.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Roellen and David Hasbrook of Edmond; three grandchildren, Clayton Hasbrook, Kelsey Hasbrook and Connor Hasbrook; brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Sarah Gentry of Shawnee; sister, Ada Marie Currie of Shawnee; two sisters-in-law, Ora Chancellor and Elwanda Gentry, both of Shawnee; two brothers-in-law and spouses, Willard and Wanda Roberts of Shawnee; John and Marcella Roberts of Wichita, Kan. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bertha Potts and the Rev. Russell Currie officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee.
