Veda was born May 6, 1924, in Ft. Green, Hardee County, Fl. the daughter of the late Frances Clarence Welch & Mattie Martha Dowling Welch. Faced by personal tragedy and a multitude of trials & obstacles throughout her life, she never gave in to defeat. She fought & overcame each one, never losing sight of what was most important- her family.
Veda enjoyed working with her plants, nurturing every single one to grow into beautiful reflections of God's wonderful creation. With each plant she gave to her daughter, sons, grandchildren, and friends, she gave an enduring piece of herself that would be a cherished reminder. Her feisty spirit manifested itself in every aspect of her life. If she believed she was in the "right", she stood her ground. She didn't back down.
Veda loved her family. She was thrilled every time she saw a car coming down the driveway, or one of her grandchildren cutting through the backyard to join her in her garden. She always kept bottles of ice cold Pepsi in the fridge, for just such occasions. Her collection of photographs continued to expand exponentially over the years, solid proof of her opinion that she could never have too many pictures of her "babies".
She loved visiting with her sister, Genita, and they frequently spent time at each other's houses. She was most happy when she was surrounded by her family, whether the occasion was a birthday, anniversary, holiday, reunion, or just a spontaneous gathering. She enjoyed witnessing each new birth of the future generations of her family, and stole many kisses from her babies and grandbabies.
