Alexander Lowrance (1708-1760) and his son John Lowrance (1740-1800) migrated to Rowan County, NC, and remained there for their lifetimes. John had 4 children, one of whom, William Lowrance (b. 8-21-1763 - d. 12-11-1852) volunteered and served in the Revolutionary War and then migrated to Owen and Henry Counties, KY. where he remained until his death.
His son, William Hamilton Lowrance (1813-1876) was born in Owen County, KY, married Druzilla Baker (1817-1893) and had 4 children, Richard Hiram, Greenbury, William and Harriet. In 1843 the family migrated to Honey Creek Township, Crawford Co., IL. William Hamilton and his 3 sons volunteered and served in the Civil War. All returned home safely. Richard Hiram, Greenbury and William married and their descendents form the 3 branches of the Lowrance (Lorance) families presently in this county."
