Helen Karnowski-Shopinski, 93, formerly of Ellis, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Harmony Assisted Living Center in Stevens Point.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia, with the Rev. Greg Michaud officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will at the church from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Friday.

Mrs. Karnowski-Shopinski was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Rosholt, a daughter of the late Onufrey “Fred” and Helen (Gostomski) Dulak. She attended St. Adalbert School.

After her education she moved to Chicago and worked as a nanny. For a short time after Chicago, she moved to Milwaukee before returning to this area.

She was married to Valentine Karnowski May 18, 1946, in Stevens Point. He died in 1987.

The couple settled in Ellis.

She was married to Max Shopinski June 9, 1990, in Polonia. He died in 1996.

The couple lived in Ellis.

Helen was a member of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society, the Blue Army. She cooked and volunteered for many years at Sacred Heart Church.

Survivors include seven children, Michael (Jane) Karnowski, Frank (Carol) Karnowski, Dennis (Joan) Karnowski, Robert (LeeAnn) Karnowski, Grace (Michael) Stroik, Rosemary (Tom) Steffen and Christine (Mark) Evans; 26 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
