Born to William C. Anderson (1825-1962) & Elizabeth Lott Anderson (1816-1882), both of South Carolina, who married Dec. 28, 1843, Calhoun County, AL. William died in the Civil War and is buried in Richmond, VA.

After William died, Elizabeth Lott Anderson married about 1865 in Alabama to Rev. Gibson Washington Joiner, who had 10 children. The families blended, and two Joiner children married two Anderson children.

Mary married Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" Mills (1829-1915) on August 30, 1871, in Bell County, TX, after the death of his first wife, Elizabeth. See marriage license at left.

They had six children:
• George Jefferson Mills (1872-1891)
• Lillie Agnes Mills (1875-1969)
• Edward Lee Mills (1877-1949)
• Nancy Ellen Mills (6/26/1878-10/22/1879)
• Eva Belle Mills Coker (1880–1963)
• Lula May Mills Parrott (1883–1962)

The death certificate says that Mary Mills was buried in the Mills Cemetery, a small family cemetery on private land. This was the former site of the Jefferson Mills farm. The grave is now unmarked.
