PITTSFIELD -- Mafalda Casali Poggi, 87, of 97 Crane Ave. died Saturday at Willowood of Pittsfield where she had resided for the past four years.
Born in Adams on Oct. 25, 1911, daughter of Dominick and Flora Capari Lora, she moved to Italy after she was born and attended schools there. She returned to the United States in 1927 and spend most of her life in North Adams and Adams.
She was employed at the former Elmvale Mill and Berkshire Woolen mill for 30 years. She had also worked at Berkshire Medical Center in the housekeeping department for 10 years, retiring in 1972.
Mrs. Poggi was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and dancing.
Her first husband, Peter Casalli, died July 10, 1974.
Her second husband, Primo P. Poggi, died Nov. 18, 1998.
She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Mary A. Allard of Lanesboro, Mrs. Flora R. Sitzam of Naples, Fla., and Mrs. June A. Rogers of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mafalda Casali Poggi of Pittsfield, who died Oct. 9, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires Inc., in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
