It is with deep sadness that the family of Gladys C. McGee announces her passing on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB after a lengthy illness. Born in Harvey Station, NB on July 25, 1928, she was the only child of the late Roy and Della (Swan) Messer.

She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Fletcher; her son, Gregory McGee (Cindy); four grandchildren, Daniel Fletcher, Michael Fletcher, Maryann McGee (Arthur) and Jacqueline McGee (Wes); five great grandchildren, Chloe, Hunter, Thomas, Jensen and Gabriel; and several other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elwood McGee and son-in-law, Robert Fletcher.

Mom spent her early childhood on the family farm in Frog Lake. The family moved to McAdam when she was in her early teens when her father began working for the CPR. She graduated from McAdam High School in 1946 and then received her RN from the Saint John General Nursing School in 1949. She and dad were married in 1950. She began working as a private nurse, and then began working at the Harvey Hospital and continued to do so until a back injury forced her to retire in the late 1970's. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed time with her family and friends, travelling and spending time at their cottage on Oromocto Lake.

Although there will be no visitation, friends are welcome to attend a funeral service to be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 2412 Route 3, Harvey, NB on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 2 pm with Rev. Anne Boudreau officiating. A reception will follow in the Knox Hall. Interment will be later at Cherry Mountain Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to make a donation in memory of Gladys, the family has suggested the Harvey Community Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Wauklehegan Manor for the wonderful care they gave Mom.

Arrangements by Flewelling Funeral Home, Nackawic, NB.
