Joan Jane Bogner-Smith
8 March 1936 – 24 May 2015

Joan Jane Bogner-Smith passed away peacefully on 24 May 2015. She had the chance to visit with most of her family on the 23rd. She was the daughter of George Bogner Jr. and Jane Elizabeth Wooley.

As a child, she was an accomplished Accordion player and many times played Flight of the Bumblebee when her children requested her to. She was also a gifted artist and painted a huge painting of How the West was Won. She did many charcoal artworks as well.

She attended Ohio University after graduating from Mansfield Sr. High and later attended Nursing School and received her LPN degree in 1972. She worked on the Pediatric floor of Mansfield General Hospital until her retirement in 1987. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1960 and was quickly put to work as a secretary and teacher in many organizations.

She married Lyman T. Smith Jr. on 14 November, 1956 and later divorced. To them were born 3 children. As a single mother her children never felt a lack for needs or wants. She provided love and support of in their many activities including swimming, diving and water polo.

She lived in Ohio, Virginia, Florida and New York and in her final years came to live in Salt Lake City with her son Lyman, and later in St. Joseph’s Villa Care facility in Salt Lake City where she passed away.

Joan is survived by her children: Cindy (Greg) Thredgold, Springville, Utah; Lyman T. Smith III (Marissa), Salt Lake City, Utah; JoAnn Renee (Kenneth) Foster, Murray, Utah; Brother: Rex E. (Evelyn) Bogner, Ashland, Ohio; Sister-in-law: Helen Hunter-Bogner, Ontario, Ohio; Grandchildren: Lyman T. Smith IV, Tabitha T. (Travis) White, Brian J. (Alayna) Thredgold, Stephanie N. (Chaz) Stevens, Tiera K. Foster, Shane G. (Autaum) Thredgold, Tyler W. Foster, Brandon T. (Caitlin) Thredgold, Kameron L. (Kylie) Foster, Jacob Smith, Kathryn M. Smith,
Great Grandchildren: Morgan White, Caitlyn Smith, Mason White, Jade Stevens, Mickenzie White, Riley Stevens, Aria Thredgold, Blake Thredgold, Claire Stevens, and due in August Willow Marie Foster, and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James Lee Bogner (infant), Kenneth George Bogner and her grandson Connor Thredgold (while serving a mission in Taiwan).

Funeral Services will be held at 11am, Thursday May 28th, 2015 at the Wheeler Mortuary in Springville, Utah. with a viewing prior to the services at 10am.

Interment will be in the Springville City Cemetery.
