John Louis Gendron, 86, a longtime Chicopee resident passed away Saturday, August 26, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center. John was born in Holyoke on May 14, 1925, a son of the late John and Lillian (Fortier) Gendron and educated in the Holyoke Schools. He was a longtime machine operator in the Holyoke Paper Industry retiring in 1990 from Technicarbon of Springfield. John enjoyed playing sports, especially bowling, softball and basketball. He was the past president of the Holyoke Deaf Club and was active with many of the activities there and in CT. John was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan who liked to travel. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances ( Dowling) Gendron of Chicopee; his son, Roy Gendron and his wife Ethalee of Chicopee; a brother, Armand Gendron of Chicopee; a sister Pauline Gendron of Chicopee as well as his extended loving family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
