George Henry Speegle was born to George Jackson Speegle and Margaret McDonald on July 22, 1862. During the Civil War, George Henry's father, George Jackson was killed on November 3, 1863, in Louisiana, in the Battle of Bayou Bourbeaux and he was buried in a mass Confederate grave. On July 30, 1866, George Henry's mother, Margaret married William Michael Laxson, in McLennan County. His mother had 7 children, with William Laxson: Peter K. (1867), Lillie (1869), William Michael (1870), Teria (1873), C.B. (1874), Frank (1876) and Hatten (1878). George Henry Speegle married Arminta Wall (b. Fannin County, TX) in 1886 and moved to Comanche County, Texas. G.H. Speegle is listed on the 1892 Comanche County Tax Rolls as possessing: 176 Acres (Value $704) [Original Land Grantee, S. Hazlett] , 1 Wagon/Buggy/Carriage (Value $40), 7 Horses and Mules (Value $125), 15 Cattle (Value $60). Together, George Henry and Arminta Speegle had 4 children: C.B., George Henry, Rosseau Dawson and Xum Henry. George Henry Speegle, Sr., died in 1894, in Comanche County, at the age of 32 years. Sometime after his death, Arminta married Elmer Godwin and she had two more children, Fred Carl and Tennie May Godwin.
