Linden - Students and staff of Linden Middle School (LMS) are saddened by the loss of one of their own, Heather Hovis, 13, who passed away at her home in Linden on Sunday, June 19. She is the daughter of Terry and Debra Hovis.

"It was a shock," said Julie Brown, principal of the middle school. "Her teachers are devastated."

Brown said that Heather had an extended illness throughout the school year. She remembers Heather as a friendly, young lady who always had a smile on her face and always had something nice to say.

"She was just a great kid," Brown said.

Surviving are her parents, siblings, Melissa, Brian, Jessica and Kara; nephew, Jason; her grandma and grandpa; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held today at Sharp Funeral Home, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St. at 7 p.m.

Visitation was held on Tuesday and will be held at 4 p.m. today, until the time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to the family.
