James Homer Hammond, 90, of Brazil, passed away on February 19, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, with his family by his side.

Jim was born September 2, 1923, the son of the late James and Alma (Gettings) Hammond. Jim served his country with the United States Army during World War II under General Patton. He worked for CR Electric in Indianapolis as an electrician for many years. Jim married his late wife Judith Kimberlin in 1959. Jim later married Barbara "Bobbe" (Heiliger) Blazer in 2002, whom survives him.

He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Brazil. In his spare time, he enjoyed wood working, fishing, hunting, and the outdoors.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; his late wife; son, James Hammond; 3 brothers, Charles Hammond, Willy "Bill" Hammond, Carl "Buddy" Hammond.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbe Hammond of Brazil; son, Paul Hammond and wife Molly of Clayton; daughters, Velma Dalton and husband John of Monon, Vicky Wayne and husband Sonny of Monon, Barbara Rodriguez of Texas, Rose Ringle of TX, Sheila Stevens and husband Bill of Connersville; step children, Stephen Van Ness and wife Janet of MA, Valerie Venable of NC, Elaine Handy and husband Jeff of Noblesville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral Information

Per Jim's wishes cremation will be performed. A private funeral service and burial will be conducted at a later date. The family has entrusted his care with Lawson-Miller Chapel.
