resident of this locality, died at
the home of her son-in-law, John Baker,
April 9th, after a prolonged sickness,
she was one of the oldest inhabitants of
Paw Paw Grove, having come here with
her mother, Mrs Ward, in 1842, some 47
years ago. , In 1845 she was married to
Dr. G. S. Hunt, who was the first regular
medical practitioner about Paw Paw
Grove. Three children were born to Mr.
and Mrs. Hunt, two sons and one daughter;
the sons both died in their childhood
days and only the daughter, Mrs. John
Baker of this place, is left of the family
to mourn her demise.
Her husband departed his life some
thirty-four years ago, leaving her to fight
life's battles alone. As an evidence of
her devotion to her deceased companion
in his efforts to succeed in his profession;
we give the following from the History
of Lee-County: "Dr. Hunt's ride soon
became extensive, taking in all the
groves within reach. His estimable wife
often accompanied him and drove the
team so he might in his carriage."
Mrs. Hunt won the respect of all her:
neighbors and left a large, circle of friends
to mourn her death. The funeral was held
in the South Paw Paw Church Thursday
at o’clock, Rev. A.B. Mettler.
The remains were laid to rest in the South
Paw Paw Cemetery adjoining her home-
Stead. Mrs. Hunt was 68 years of age
at death.
