Hylon served his country during WWII in the Pacific Rim from early 1943 through December 1944. Hylon served the Lord throughout his life as a pastor, chaplain and mission volunteer. After serving as a pastor in Texas and starting churches in Colorado, he served as pastor of FBC Elgin for 9 years from 1957-1965. He then spent 24 years as a chaplain with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. After retiring, he returned to Elgin in 1989. He continued to serve as a pastor, supply preacher and mission volunteer.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Iris Glass Vickers as well as his children Rita London and her husband Karl of Corpus Christi, David Vickers and his wife Lori of San Antonio and Ronald Vickers of Jasper. He is survived by one sister, Peggy Vickers of Johnson City and one brother, Jerry Vickers and wife Rosemary of Elgin. He leaves seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 21st at Elgin Funeral Home, in Elgin Texas. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 22nd at the First Baptist Church in Elgin with burial following at the Elgin Cemetary.
