George was adopted by Beulah's second husband, Charles Robert Hughes (FAG memorial 16996579), hence the surname Hughes.

George William Hughes, Sr., 65 of Mesquite, Texas passed away on June 29, 2005 at his residence on his 44th Wedding Anniversary. Mr. Hughes was born on August 5, 1939 in Oklahoma City, OK, to Howard Willoughby and Beulah Irene Short. He married Barbara Jean Bratcher on June 29, 1961. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, yard work and was an outdoors man. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara of Mesquite, two sons, Michael of Paris and Howard of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, a daughter Patricia of Mesquite, thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Hughes is preceded in death by his father, mother and a son, George Hughes, Jr. (Bubba) in 1986. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the Terrell United Pentecostal Church Youth Group, 600 Griffith, Terrell, Texas, 75160.
