Obituary published in The Coeur d' Alene Press on February 1, 2015
Darla Myrlene Hays, 67

Wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and dear friend to many, went to be with her Lord on Jan. 27, 2015.

Darla was born in San Bernardino, Calif., on June 18, 1947, the second of four children to Lawrence and Zelpha DeGan. Her family moved to Sacramento while she was still in high school.

Darla knew her future husband her entire life, as Efton was a neighbor and a friend of her brothers, Rod and Jerry. When Darla was 17 years old, she and Efton returned to San Bernardino where their families lived and were married on Dec. 19, 1964, in the church they grew up in. They settled in the Sacramento area where they raised their two sons, Steve and Scott.

Darla loved her family and friends. She possessed the unequaled ability to make everyone feel loved even when she didn't. Darla may have met you at church, at Costco, the gas station, grocery store or even in Honduras. Wherever you may have met her, you will not have forgotten her.

Darla loved arts and crafts, and her work was amazing. She could make any ordinary object beautiful with a little paint and a bow. Darla loved to sing, and she was always singing. She had the voice of an angel.

Darla loved the Lord and her family with all of her heart and all of the time. When Darla said she would pray for you, she meant it! She prayed for anyone that was in need of a prayer, and she prayed for her family every day.

Darla and Efton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last month. Darla was so happy and loved seeing so many of her family and friends.

Darla's wish for all of you was that you would love God and live for him.

A celebration of Darla's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, at Lake City Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake City Community Church (Rathdrum site), 6000 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, 83815.

"I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Psalm 4:8
