Odell D. Beroth, age 95, of the Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015. He was born on April 5, 1920, to Thomas J. and Cora Motsinger Beroth. He was a lifetime member of Brookstown United Methodist Church, serving as superintendent of Sunday School, a teacher, lay leader, chairman of the board & Pastor Parish. He was a part of the finance committee, sang in the choir for over 65 years and served on many other committees. Odell served in the US Navy from 1943-1946 in the South Pacific aboard the USS Mindanao as SK1st class. Mr. Beroth retired in 1979 after working as collection manager for the Winston-Salem Retail Merchants Association for 33 years where he was recognized many times for his leadership by the National Retail National Association. He was a charter member of the Winston-Salem Sertoma Club and was active until retirement. Odell helped organize the Vienna Volunteer Civic Club, serving as its first President. He also helped organize the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, serving on the board for many years and also as its president. Mr. Beroth was preceded in death by Gladys Hall Beroth, his wife of 69 years, and also his parents, 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He is survived by his present wife, Martha Sturkie Beroth, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service at Brookstown United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Chip Webb and Rev. Bert Saunders at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17th. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside service at the gravesite.
