Mattie Barlow Tanner, 102, died Thursday, May 14, 2015 in Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mrs. Tanner was a native of Wheeler County and a long-time resident of Statesboro. Mattie served as a teacher in Fargo, GA, Axon, GA, Patterson, GA, Statesboro and Bulloch County and retired from the Bulloch County Department of Family and Children Services, where she served as a Case Worker. Mattie was a member of the Business & Professional Women's Club and Langston Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a very active member and was also a member of the Home Demonstration Club for many years. Mattie had a wonderful sense of humor and a zest for life.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Beb Tanner and 17 brothers and sisters.

Mattie is survived by her son, Robert Tanner, and his wife, Martha Ann of Statesboro; 2 grandchildren, Kevin Palmer and his wife, Julie of Swainsboro and Shelley Harris and her husband, Billy of Statesboro; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca Palmer, Maggie Palmer, Jake Palmer and Ava Waid; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 1:30PM-3:00PM Sunday, May 17, 2015 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held 3:00PM Sunday, May 17, 2015 in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Dr. H. William Perry officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wallace Wright, Jimmy Wiggins, Donald Nesmith, Billy Yawn, Billy Nesmith and Marcus Seligman.
