He was born October 24, 1935 in Bergen to Theodore and Mary Bartsch.
Richard entered the army in 1955 and stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He was discharged in 1957 when he moved to Minot.
Dick married Violet Ulledahl on September 3, 1960. He worked 23 years for Hart Motor Express and later for Lewis Truck Lines before managing the Knights of Columbus for 5 years. In April 1995, he started Dick's Courier Service, until poor health forced him to sell the business.
He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church of Minot and the Holy Name Society of the Church. Dick was a 4th Degree Knight and served as Grand Knight from 1977 to 1978, Faithful Navigator and Knight of the Year in 1984. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie.
Survivors: wife, Minot; sons, Randy, Savage, Minnesota, Roland, Minot; daughter, Rhonda Aleme, Balfour; four grandchildren; parents, Minot; brothers, Anton "Tony", Minot, Charles, Voltaire, Dennis, Bismarck; sisters, Loretta Jobin, Cortland, Illinois, Bertha Wald and Diane Wittmayer, both of Minot, Evelyn Burgard, Jamestown, Barbara Shuette, Williston.
Funeral was Monday, in the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Minot.
