Daughter of Onko Garrels and Johanna Schalk. Emigrated from Leer, Germany, in 1866. In 1870, this large family lived in Peoria. Katherine married Hermann Oltmanns in 1886. In 1900, they lived in Peoria with son, Benjamin (1888). In 1920, son Bernhardt, was widowed and living with Katherine and Herman. His daughter, Jeanette (1911) also lived there. Katherine reported giving birth to three other children, all of whom died before 1900, so it's likely that Benjamin and Bernhardt are the same person.
