Jean was born in Chelsea, a suburb city of Boston to Edward Stanley MURRAY and Edith Alexandra (MURRAY) MURRAY. Her father died in Boston after being hit by a train, where he worked. She was two-and-a-half. Her mother went back to school and became a nurse, ending up as a district nurse north of Boston where she met and married Rev. William J THOMPSON soon after his wife died, who was being taken care of by the district nurse, Edith. Jean's stepfather was from England, and mother was from Nova Scotia, and she traveled with the family to England in 1905. Rev Thompson and his new family moved to the midwest soon thereafter where Rev Thompson became known as an evangelist by the name of "Thompson the Egyptian". Jean's mother Edith also became a pastor of a church in Keokuk, Lee, Iowa in 1909 (Keokuk Christian Church). During that time, Jean was wasn't living with her mother and step father, but came back to live with them by 1911, and with her mother's encouragement eloped with a besotted Donald C CHESNUT, and in adamant opposition to Donald's parents wishes. Donald had become quite close to Rev. Mrs. Thompson, who had raved to him about her daughter Jean, who was soon to be coming. The couple were married at Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa on December 31, 1911. The elopement made the local newspaper. The newlywed's headed for Jacksonville, Florida were Donald learned the Jeweler's trade, and established a business there. Jean and Donald lived there for about 30 years. When WW1 broke out, Jean's mother joined the Nursing Sisters, and just after the war was over, briefly stopped in Nova Scotia prior to settling in Jacksonville with and near the couple for years to come. In Florida, Jean and Donald had two children, Jean Murray CHESNUT and Donald Charles CHESNUT, Jr. Donald, like his grandmother, joined the military, eventually serving in both Korea and Vietnam. Just prior to Jean's death in 1945, Donald and Jean moved to Macon, Georgia.
