Samuel R. Barber was born in Illinois as the 5th of the six known children of Rebecca (b. abt. 1798 North Carolina) and Samuel Barber (b. abt.1797 South Carolina).

Samuel married Miss Harriet Waymack (Wormack, Womack, Wamack) on October 20, 1850 in McDonough County, Illinois.

To this union were born 4 daughters :

Nancy Jane
Mildred
Fanny Christina

Samuel R. Barber died at the age of 32 years and was buried in the Barber family cemetery. His burial site is unmarked.

Samuel's wife Harriet was to be buried by his side upon her death. She was living in Bardolph, McDonough County, Illinois when she passed away on Dec. 14, 1908. Road conditions must have been unsafe, as she was buried in the Bardolph cemetery instead, thus leaving both of her husbands buried in the Barber cemetery.
