He was a retired petroleum engineer with Exxon Co. USA, with 40 years of service, including 12 years in South Amercia, and 1951-1962, in Purcell, McClain Co., OK.
Those preceding him in death were his wife of 55 years, Catherine Marguerite (Jolissaint) Barthel, in 1997; his parents, Joseph L., Sr. and Anna (Dupuy) Barthel, she, in 1923; his stepmother, Lucille (Babin) Barthel; his brothers, Maj. Dupuy Prosper Barthel, at age 33, and James L.; and a sister, Muriel Ross.
Survivors include their 5 daughters, Linda Edge, Tampa, FL; Gail Yeary, Krum, TX; Nan Peters, Anchorage, AK; Dell Coutant, Tulsa, OK; and Jeanie Hannaman, Baton Rouge; a sister, Anna Laura Dill, Norco; 11 grandchildren and 4 gr-grandchilden.
