William Emert "Hillbilly" Tipton of Rockford left this earthly home on Sunday, May 10, 2015 with the hope of a great family reunion in the house of the Lord with those who have gone on before, namely, Wife, Grace McDaniel Tipton; Father & Mother, Clyde & Florence Tipton, Brothers & Sisters, Clyde Tipton, Paul Tipton, Anna Jean Webb. He married Grace McDaniel in 1951 and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He served in World War II in Italy in the Medical Corp as a member of the 5th Army.

William attended Townsend High School prior to the war and worked a short time at Alcoa. After the war he went to the University of Tennessee under the G.I. Bill of Rights. After graduation in March 1949, he went to work for the Internal Revenue Service in Knoxville, TN, later working for about five years out of the Johnson City, TN office on a temporary basis. In 1963 and 1964, he was selected to go to Miami, FL and work on District Attorney Bobby Kennedy's Organized Crime Task Force, after this temporary duty he returned to Knoxville, TN where he worked until retirement. He was highly commended for his work in Miami by his supervisors there. He was a member of the Sons of the Revolution via service of both his parental ancestors namely the Emerts and Tiptons.

Survivors include: Son & Daughter-in-law, Charles (Chuck) Tipton & wife Lisa of Townsend; Grandchildren, Johnathan Tipton and Krista Grace Tipton; Sisters, Elizabeth Webb and Catherine Daughtery; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 11, 2015 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Greg Long officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 12, 2015 at Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church Cemetery for the interment. Family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 11, 2015 at Smith Trinity Chapel.
