Phylis Mae Jossart was born December 20, 1930 to Harvey and Francis (Braby) Jossart on the family farm in rural Sherburn, Minnesota. She attended rural country school and later was a Graduate of Sheburn-Dunnell High School. Phylis was united in marriage to Leslie Martin on November 20, 1947 at Alpha, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed in Jay Township, Martin County. Phylis attended and later graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College and then Rochester Community College with a Register Nurse (RN) Degree at the age of fifty. Phylis was employed at the Rochester, Jackson, Estherville and Trimont Hospitals. In 1984 they moved from there farm in Jay Township to their home in Sherburn. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sherburn where she taught Sunday School and was involved in it's ladies groups. Phylis was awarded "Reach Facilitator" of the year in 1989 from the Minnesota Mental Health Association. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family. Quilting, playing cards and having coffee with her friends were very special to her. Phylis enjoyed growing roses and flowers.

Phylis died on Monday afternoon, May 9, 2005 at the Fairmont Medical Center-Mayo Health System in Fairmont, Minnesota, at the age of seventy-four years.

Her husband, Les Martin of Sherburn, Minnesota; son, Leland Martin and his wife, Connie, of Minnetrista, Minnesota, daughter, Terri McCaffrey and her husband, Steve, of St. Cloud, Minnesota, son, Gaylord Martin and Rita, of Madison Lake, Minnesota; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Lyle Jossart and his wife, Rosie of Grandby, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Maxine Drager and Verda Scheff and her husband, Gordon both of Sherburn, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Phylis was preceded in death by parents, mother and father-in-law, Ida and Glen Martin; sister-in-law, Bonnie Polz and other relatives.
