Frances Smith was born in 1849 in Fayette County, Va./W.Va., a daughter of George Washington Smith Sr. and wife Catherine Bennett Smith. (Source: Larry G. Her niece Eda Smith Ellison said she was called "Franky."

Franky married William Meadows on Jan. 24, 1867. Mr. Meadows was born in 1846 in Greenbrier County, Va./W.Va. (Source: Our Families, Pages 114-115.) Her second husband was William Carter.

Marion Carter, 53, single, died on Oct. 9, 1921, in McKendree, Fayette County, of "dilatation of the heart" with "fracture of the spine" as a contributory factor. 2. Lewis Marshall (Meadows) Carter, born in December 1869 (U.S. Census, 1900)/W.Va.; died June 15, 1938/Fayette Co. (Death certificate, https://archive.wvculture.org/vrr/va_dcdetail.aspx?Id=1303083.) Lewis married Virginia "Jennie" Bennett. They are buried in Prince Cemetery, Fayette County, W.Va. (Also known as the Carter-Tolley Cemetery). Find A Grave 135741942 and 135742267.

3. Sarah Katherine Carter, born Jan. 28, 1870/West Virginia; died March 29, 1928/ Quinnimont, Fayette County, W.Va. 5. Rachel E. Carter, born in April 1875 (1900 census); born 1876. (Our Families.) Rachel married J.N. Martin in December 1907. 6. Mary E. Carter, born about 1877 in Summers County. She married Oliver Bowles in 1893 in Summers County. Oliver was born on Jan. 18, 1867, a son of Irvin Bowles and Sylvira Bragg Bowles.
