James was the son of Henry Freeman Sr. and Elizabeth Benue [Baignoux]. He married Eupheamea Reynolds. He died between 21 Mar. 1793 (when he made his will) and 5 Apr. 1793 (when his estate was inventoried). He is presumed to have died at his residence in South Brunswick Twp.

Note: James was a Presbyterian and lived near Kingston Presbyterian Church, where he and his wife might have been members or communicants. Their remains might be interred in the adjacent burial ground considering that their children and grandchildren were also affiliated with the church. Many early gravestones there have been lost.
