Son of Isaac Floyd and Ibby Lizabeth Dodson Dixon, was born Sep 2, 1902, near Sneedville, TN. He departed this life Sunday, Mar 9, 1997, in St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, MO, at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 7 days. On Dec 4, 1929, he was united in marriage to Lillie Icel Renfrow and to this union 2 sons and 3 daughters were born. On Dec 4, 1996, Arvis and Lillie celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son Carl Dean Dixon; a sister Tennie Baker; and 3 brothers Mac, Roper, and Roy Dixon. Arvis is survived by his wife Lillie of the home; his son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Helen Dixon of Hartville, MO; his 3 daughters and sons-in-law Jean and Leo Coy, Janet and Art Vandergrift, and Glenda and Stanley Jones, all of Hartville, MO; 9 grandchildren Galen Dixon, Lisa Jones, Becky, Rachel, and Aaron Jones, Norman and Gary Coy, and David and William Vandergrift; a step-granddaughter Mary Thornton; 4 great-grandchildren Heath and Whitney Coy and Joni and Jeni Dixon; a step-great-granddaughter Jordan Thornton; a brother Ike Dixon of Ava, MO; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born in Tennessee and, at the age of 4, moved with his family to Douglas County, MO, where he graduated from the Ava High School. For 4 years he taught in country schools in Douglas County, including St. James and Huffman Schools. While he was teaching, he met and married Lillie and they later made their home on their dairy farm where they lovingly raised their family. For many years, he continued to operate his dairy farm even after entering the ministry. Arvis was saved as a teenager and was a longtime member of the Hartville First Freewill Baptist Church. He surrendered to the call to the ministry and was ordained on May 24, 1942. Throughout the years, he pastored at several Baptist churches in Douglas and Wright County including: Antioch, New Hope, Glendale, Cold Springs, Corinth, Shiloh, Pine Flat, Cedar Gap and Green Valley. In 1957, he and Lillie opened the Dixon Cafe in Mansfield and operated it for 9 years. Then in 1966, they sold their cafe and moved to their present home in Hartville, where Arvis worked with his son in Wayne's TV Shop. For several years he served as the city collector for Hartville. In 1973, he started to work for the Green Thumb program and continued with them for 10 years. During this time, he was presented an award for being the oldest worker with the Green Thumb organization. He was a member of the Hartville-Senior citizens and enjoyed playing pool and visiting with his friends. He also was an avid reader. His family was very important to him and he loved spending time with them. Arvis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a caring Pastor, and a good friend, and will be greatly missed. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
