Rev. Luke served as pastor of Hope Chapel from 1853 to 1868, having succeeded Rev. Gregory. His wife was the well-known Victorian religious author and hymn writer Jemima Luke. A cenotaph for Rev. Luke and his wife also sits in the vestibule at the Hope Chapel in Hotwells (near Clifton), Bristol.
