Theodore J. Niewold, 71, of Sycamore, died Tuesday, March 7, 1995, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

He was born on Aug. 10, 1923, in Lincoln, Neb., the son of R.E. Newton and Anna Mae (Martin) Niewold.

He is survived by his wife, Daena of Sycamore; one son, Cary (Barbara) Niewold of Sycamore; and one daughter, Cheri (Ian) Strachan of California. He also had four grandchildren, Tim and Garnet Niewold of Sycamore, and Colin and Alec Strachan of California; one brother, Edgar Niewold of Sycamore; one sister, Greta Holbo of California; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Robert and John.

He married Daena Gibbons on Dec. 12, 1945, at the Methodist Church. He moved to Sycamore in 1931, and graduated from Sycamore High School, Class of 1941. He attended Northern Illinois State Teacher's College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator on an aircraft carrier in World War II. He worked as a contractor and built many houses in Sycamore. He also worked with Richardson Plastics in DeKalb or 10 years. He was a member of the Sycamore V.F.W. and World War II Pilot's Club.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Butala Funeral Home in Sycamore, Rev. David E. Chaney officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
