Funeral Services For John Bascom To Be Held Friday

Funeral services for John W. Bascom, 79, former Vernal resident, who died at Santa Monica, Calif., Sunday, from causes incident to age, will be held Friday noon at the Vernal First Ward chapel under the direction of Bishop Ross MErrell of Naples ward.

Mr. Bascom was born at Mona, Utah, April 19, 1869, a son of Joell Almon Bascom and Alice Jane Bell Bascom. He attended school at Mona.

He came to Vernal as a young man. He and Rachel Lybbert were married in 1903. Mrs. Bascom later died. The couple had five children, four of whom survive.

Mr. Bascom settled in Canada in 1913 where he again married. Four children were born into this union.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mr. Bascom has been active in the Sunday School, Mutual Improvement and other organizations. He is a former Sunday School superintendent.

Surviving are his widow; eight children; a brother, Kimball Bascom, Vernal; and an adopted sister, Nellie Stanley.

Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park, under the direction of the Swain Funeral Home.
