BERNARD E. WOLFORD
Aged 31, 1410 Seventh Ave., a veteran of World war II and a prominent athlete of the city, died at Mercy hospital at 11:15 o'clock Monday night after a brief illness. During the war he served with the United States army engineers in the Middle East.
Mr. Wolford was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High school, class of 1939, and was a member of he varsity football team for three years.
Before entering the army he was employed as a machinist in the Altoona Works, Pennsylvania Railroad Co. and upon his return to civilian life he resume his employment.
Mr. Wolford was born in Altoona December 31, 1920, a son of Edgar and Violet (Spinogle) Wolford, and married Miss Marie Cox in 1942. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and James L. Noble post 3, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Janice Marie and Deborah Ann, at home; his parents, two sisters, Yvonne and Diane of Altoona, and two brothers, Michael of Altoona and Jack of Akron, Ohio.
