Mrs. Manie H. Mears, wife of Mr. Sewell W. Mears, died on Sunday, December 30th, at her home in Onancock, Va., after a short illness, aged sixty-eight years. Funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. Olin Ray, assisted by Revs. E. B. Taylor, Thomas Heath and F. D. Thomas and interment was in Mt. Holly Cemetery. Mrs. Mears had been a member of the M. E. Church, South, for a number of years. She had a number of friends and will be greatly missed in the community.
Mrs. Mears is survived by her husband, Mr. Sewell W. Mears, two sons, Messrs. Fred T. and Samuel S. Mears, four sisters, Mrs. William Marsh, of Crisfield, Mrs. William Daugherty, of Daugherty, Mrs. Henry Bull, of Finneys Wharf and Mrs. Ellis Evans, of Onancock, and one brother, Mr. Stanley Fitchett, of Chincoteague.
The pallbearers were Messrs. Walter Daugherty, Will Daugherty, Delmas Parker, H. C. Mears, Edwin Mears, and Wharton Bull. The honorary pallbearers were: Messrs. Roger Mears, L. F. Purvis, E. B. Waples, Oscar Parks, Carroll Evans, George Tignal, Solomon Gray, Wesley Reed, C. C. Edwards, George Boggs, I. W. Scott, Herman L. East, Lloyd Lewis and Marvin Parks.
The floral tributes were lovely and showed the love and honor of Mrs. Mears' friends.
