SULPHUR – Gilbert M. Baynard, Sr., 83, passed away Monday, May 04, 2015 in a local care facility.
Gilbert, a Port Arthur native, has resided in Sulphur for 58 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and he retired as a Tug Boat Captain from Harbor Docking & Towing after 40 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and simply being in the great outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Theresa Gaspard Baynard; son, Gilbert Milton Baynard, Jr.; sister, Mildred M. Rogers; brother, A. W. Baynard, Jr.; and nephew, Marvin Rogers.
Survivors include three daughters, Sherry A. Ellender of Sulphur, Carolyn S. Jarvis and husband Steve of Axton, Virginia, and Charlotte L. Rackley and husband Robert of Lumberton, Texas; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Gilbert's life will be held at Noon Thursday, May 7, 2015 in Hixson –Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held in the funeral home from 4 – 8 pm Wednesday and resume at 10 am Thursday. Interment will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South.
