Death of Mrs. Mary Ann Speelmon
Mrs. Mary Ann Speelmon, wife of Solomon Speelman, whose serious illness was mentioned last week, passed out of this life at the family home north of town at an early hour Thursday forenoon. The immediate cause of her death was cancer of the liver from which she had been suffering for a long time. She retained her strength to a remarkable degree, however, and was bedfast for only about five weeks prior to her demise. The funeral was conducted from the Christian church in this city, by Rev. Akright of the Hamlet Wesleyan Methodist church, Sunday forenoon and interment was made at the Crown Hill cemetery.
Mary Ann Laramore, daughter of George and Sarah Laramore, was born in Tippecanoe county, Indiana, on February 19, 1845, and on the day of her death had attained the age of 65 years, 5 months and 22 days. She came to Starke county with her father's family in March, 1851, and with the exception of two or three years, spent in Fulton county, she has been a resident here ever since. She became the wife of Solomon Speelmon on October 5, 1865, and to this union three children were born, one of whom preceded her in death. She was a kind and affectionate wife, mother and neighbor and her departure is mourned by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband; two children: George G. Speelmon of Milo, No. Dak., and Mrs. Schuyler Fletcher of Knox; three brothers: Charles, Andrew J., and Amos Laramore; and four sisters: Mrs. Frank Hay of Bass Lake, Mesdames Nelson and John Bryant of Fulton county, and Mrs. Clem Rogers of Washington township.
