Joan Ilene Newberry, 81, passed peacefully, surrounded by family on Jan. 16, 2015 after a brief hospital stay and health care facility in Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia.

A lifelong resident of Montgomery, she moved Sept. 2014 to Georgia to be close to her oldest son Mike’s family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor & Hazel (Whitlock) Bretz; and her husband Daryl of 48 happy years.

Survivors include, sons, Michael (Vicki) Newberry, Robert (Kindra) Newberry; granddaughter Maggie Mae Newberry; granddaughter Sarah (Rodney) Grimes (husband); great granddaughter, Avery Grimes; and her sister, Susan (Noel) Stetler.

A memorial service starts 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Presbyterian Church in California Corners, Michigan. Family will receive friends and guests at the Church starting at 11 a.m.

She will be interned directly after the services in the California Township Cemetery next door and lunch will be served at the American Legion Post 156 in Montgomery, around 1 p.m., by the Auxiliary where Mom was a member for many years.

The Family requests no flowers, but donations can be made to diabetes foundation in her memory.
