Age 85 years, Willy died Friday, May 1, 2015 in St. Mary’s of Michigan, Saginaw. He was born to William and May (Claerhout) Jacobs on February 15, 1930 in Bay County, where he resided all his life. Before his retirement in July of 1990, Willy was employed with Gollin Block & Supply Company for 33 years, and also previously with General Motors for seven years. He was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. Norbert Church). In addition to garden farming and “crop tours”, Willy enjoyed playing cards, visits to the casino, and witnessing the rise and fall of the Detroit Tigers.
On May 5, 1951 he married Lois Gast and she preceded him in death on April 26, 2010. Surviving family members include eight children: Dale (Beth) Jacobs, Doug (Linda) Jacobs, Mary Jo (Robert) Bergevin, Sally (Dave) Clements, Dave (Sheryl) Jacobs, John (Kim) Jacobs, Jim Jacobs (Kimberly Greania), and William (Kayeleen) Jacobs; a daughter-in-law, Leeann Jacobs; 18 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Elmer (Bernie) Jacobs; and special sister-in-law: Joanie Gast. In addition to his parents and wife, Willy was predeceased by a daughter and son, Suzanne Marie and Daniel (“Dipe”); five brothers and two sisters, Harold, Raymond, Clarence, Emil and Don Jacobs, Charlotte Rhodes, and Alice Oswald.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. Norbert Church), 126 W. Munger Road, Munger, MI. Willy will lie in state in church Monday after 10:00 AM. Rev. Joseph Schabel will preside and Rite of Committal will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Brian’s House Community Group, Inc. or the American Cancer Society. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00PM at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel.
