Erma Louise Butts, 92 of Cabool, MO went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, MO. Erma was born on October 22, 1922 to William Towney and Rosa Lee (Scroggins) Estep in Mountain Grove, Missouri, the second of nine children. Erma accepted the Lord as her Savior as a teenager at a brush arbor revival and was a long time member of Cabool First Baptist Church at the time of her death. Erma was united in marriage to Earl Butts on June 14, 1941, in Cabool, Missouri. Earl and Erma were blessed with two children, Howard Earl and Corma Lea.

Erma was Earl’s helpmate in whatever they did. When they owned cows, she helped with the milking. When they traveled the country during the depression looking for work she did cooking for the threshing crews of which Earl was a part of. When Earl built new homes or remodeled one she would be right there alongside helping in any way she could. She had no problem walking along the top plate of a new home or hammering nails in flooring.

When they retired, she was alongside him again as they traveled throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, plus parts of Canada, and Mexico enjoying the many wonders and beautiful sights the Lord has provided.

Erma was preceded in death by her son, Howard and his wife, Barbara, and two of their children, Jeffery and Timothy; two sisters, Lottie Mai Miller and Inez Laws and four brothers, Edward James (E.J.), Chester, Charles and Billy Gene Estep. She is survived by her husband, Earl; her daughter, Corma Lea Harmon and husband, Max of Cabool; four grandchildren, Tracy Gerkey and husband, Tim and Eva Cox and husband, Brad of Springfield, MO, Samuel Butts of Cabool, MO and Jason Harmon and wife, Catrina of Hickory Creek, TX; five great grandchildren, David Gerkey of Ohio, Jillian Gerkey of Springfield, MO, Kevin Butts and wife, Katie of South Carolina and Taylor Cox of Springfield, MO; two brothers, Andrew Estep and wife, Janet of Joplin, MO and William Estep and wife, Rae of Tooele, UT.

Erma will be missed by her many friends and family. Some will remember her and think of the wonderful meals and pies she used to prepare, others will remember her sense of humor and her love.
