Death of John S. Clapp
John S. Clapp, one of Cuba's well-known farmers, died at his home west of the village Friday night. Mr. Clapp has been in poor health for a long time from a complication of diseases which caused him considerable suffering.
John Clapp was born in Angelica January 15th, 1833. He was the son of Agile Clapp. In 1838 he moved to Friendship, where he lived till his marriage with Miss Mary Eldridge, sister of Major Eldridge, on April 26th, 1864. With his bride he took up a residence in Clarksville where he purchased a farm, taking up sheep raising as his principal business. He was successful with the sheep breeding and as a general farmer. In 1883 Mr. Clapp purchased the Sheldon farm and came to Cuba where he has since lived.
