In Memory of…............ Jonnie B. Dyer.

You may be gone, no longer living on this earth; but you will live on - in the memories of your family and friends. There will always be a part of you living in those who knew you. You will live on because we remember you!

Jonnie B. Dyer passed away in San Antonio on August 28,2008 after a lengthy illness. She was born on February 7,1922 in Fordoche, Louisiana to Earnest and Bess Bellomy.

She was preceded in death by her two sons, Irby Dyer III and Daniel Earnest Dyer. Sergeant Irby Dyer, better known as "Corky", was a Special Forces medic who died in Laos and whose remains have never been recovered.

Jonnie attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton where she was a member of the Art Club, the Dramatic Club and president of the Junior Chapter of National College Spanish Clubs. Some of her art work was displayed in the Fine Arts building in Dallas in 1940, and in 1941 she received first prize in a national poetry contest.

She married Irby Lloyd Dyer on June 6, 1942 and while Irby served in World War II, Jonnie worked as a model and a Red Cross volunteer in Hollywood, California. After the war they settled in Midland, where she was active in the community and a charter member of the Junior League.

Jonnie left Midland in 1977 and moved to La Jolla, California. It was then that her love for jazz music took over. She was a great follower of jazz musicians in California and around the nation. She so endeared herself to that tight knit band of musicians that she was listed in their music program as the cheerleader.

In 1995 she moved to San Antonio to be closer to her daughter, and during this time she continued to follow jazz.

Jonnie is survived by her daughter, Deborah Dyer Gutting and husband Greg of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Deborah Denise Dyer of Berkeley, California, Trey Garmon and wife Jody, of Midland, Ashley Garmon of Austin; and four great grandchildren, Zoe Dyer, Gramm Garmon, Garrett Garmon and Grace Garmon. Other special family members include Bonnie and Jerry Petree of Midland.

Her family would like to thank Linda Haley of Professional Caretakers, and Grace Hospice, of San Antonio for joining the family during Jonnie's illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the West Texas Boys Ranch Foundation, P.O. Box 4077, San Angelo, TX 76902.

A private graveside service was held Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Fair View Cemetery for the family.
