Thelma C. Haas, 91, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2012 at the Arbor in Ridgeland. Services will be held Tuesday January 31 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at the First Baptist Church of Jackson with visitation from 9:00 - 10:30 am at Wright and Ferguson on High Street. Private family interment services will follow a Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Haas was born September 26, 1920 in Union City, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carmon and Pearl Caplinger, her brother, Carmon Caplinger, Jr. and her beloved husband of 62 years, Harry Haas, Jr. She is survived by her brothers Norman Caplinger of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Robert Caplinger of Dayton, Ohio; her four children, son Steven Haas (wife Molly) of Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, daughters Barbara Patton (husband Eddie) of Abbeville, South Carolina, Nancy Brown (husband Cecil) of Jackson, MS, and Elaine Bennett (husband Chuck) of Napier Field, Alabama; twelve grandchildren: Greg, Christy, Andrew, Brian, Thomas, Lisa, Mickey, Lindy, Nathan, Lauren, Sarah, and Jeffery; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Thelma attended Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music, affiliated with Butler University, Indianapolis, majoring in voice. A Jackson resident since 1946, Thelma was a very active in music and art prior to her illness. She was board member and exhibit chair for the Municipal Art Gallery, past membership chair of the Jackson Music Association, singer for the Jackson Opera Guild, long time choir member and soloist at the First Baptist Church of Jackson, guest soloist at numerous local churches, Sunday School teacher, member of the Maurice Thompson Singers, Avon and Mary Kay consultant, and interior decorating consultant.
