Walter C. Couey, age 89, of Janesville, died on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison. He was born in Crawford County on March 14, 1926, the son of Don and Minnie Minerva (Toney) Couey. He graduated from High School in Richland Center, and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. Walter married Nadean Laurel Willis on Sept. 30, 1946, in Richland Center, and had been a Janesville resident for 44 years. He owned the Sunnyside Shell Service Center, retiring in December of 1988. After his retirement, he worked in the Hardware Dept. for Walmart. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher, and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Walter is survived by his wife, Laurel Couey; 2 daughters and their husbands; 3 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; great grandson, Treston; 5 brothers: Kermit, Donald, Byron, Richard and Rowniane Couey; and 4 sisters: Alma Nicks, Gyneth Henry, Bernice Reineking, and Pauline Olson.
