Rudolph Gramolini: former NL firefighter

New London -- Rudolph "Rudy" Salvatore Gramolini, 57 of 39 Berkeley Avenue, retired firefighter for the New London Fire Department, died Wednesday at Uncas on the Thames Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Gramolini retired in July 1983 after 28 years of service. He has also worked at the Submarine Base Fire Department for two years.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Murphy Rathburn Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars and John Coleman Prince Post, American Legion, New London Lodge of Elks and the Tusana Columbus Lodge Sons of Italy in America.
A native of New London, he was born May 14, 1928, the son of Mary Alegi Gramolini of New London and the late Romano Pietro Gramolini.
He married the former Jean MacDougall, May 9, 1953, in New London. She died September 2, 1985.
Besides his mother, survivors include two sons, Gary S. of Mystic and Robert D. Gramolini of New London; two daughters Nancy J. Gramolini of New London and Judy A. Gramolini at home, and a sister Vilma Frausini of Waterford.
The funeral will be at 10:15 a.m. Friday from the Impellitteri Bridges Memorial Home, to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Joseph's Church. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight.
