Hughes, Marian
East Lyme Marian G. Hughes, 84, of 22 Romagna Road, died Monday evening at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
She was born March 16, 1919, in New London, the daughter of Neil and Mary Murphy MacDougall.
She married Robert Hughes in June 1949; he died in 1989.
Mrs. Hughes, a graduate of the Williams Memorial Institute in 1937, was retired from the Seaside Regional Center in Waterford where she had been employed as a secretary. She enjoyed playing cards, horse races, jigsaw puzzles, and knitting. She was an avid Red Sox fan.
She is survived by a son, Robert Hughes of East Lyme; a daughter, Ann Moore of Waterford; two brothers, Robert MacDougall and his wife Louise of Groton, and Everett MacDougall and his wife Catherine of Waterford; and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three brothers, George, Edwin, and James MacDougall; and a sister, Eva MacDougall.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. Interment will be private. There will be a calling hour from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 2572 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06518-3027.
